Cats love to poke and prod around cracks and crevices, especially when they know something tasty or fun is hiding just out of their sight. The SmartCat Peek-a-Prize Toy Box helps encourage your cat’s natural predatory habits by partially hiding some of her favorite toys.

Your pet will have a great time fishing them out, especially during long daytime hours when you’re at work and your kitty is home alone. Keeps indoor cats mentally and physically sharp. You can drop almost any appropriately sized cat toy inside the box. Or if your pet is motivated by food, drop a few treats inside for her to catch and eat.

iPod Cat

Shhh..... Can't you see I'm trying to sleep?

Chevy the tomcat, enjoying some tunes on his iPod while trying to take a nap. The animals in my house live a rough life, huh?

This was one of the first shots I took with my new iPhone 4. I have to say, I'm impressed with the new camera. It is a HUGE improvement over the old one.

Ragamuffin cats

The Ragamuffin is a breed of domestic cat that first made its appearance in 1994. Ragamuffins are notable for their friendly personalities and thick, rabbitlike fur.

Ragamuffins are a muscular, heavy breed of cat not reaching full maturity until approximately four years of age. The physical traits of the breed include a rectangular, broad-chested body with shoulders supporting a short neck. The head is a broad, modified wedge with a rounded forehead and a nose dip. Ragamuffins come in all coat colors and patterns with a medium-length coat that increases in length toward the stomach. Although the coat is thick and plush, it does not readily mat or clump and is easy to care for. Ragamuffins are bred to be sociable, intelligent, affectionate, cuddly companions that are playful throughout their lives.

The head is a broad, modified wedge with a rounded appearance. The forehead should be moderately rounded. The body should appear rectangular with a broad chest and broad shoulders and moderately heavy muscling in the hindquarters, with the hindquarters being equally broad as the shoulders. There should be a fatty pad (omentum) in the lower abdomen. Fur length is to be slightly longer around the neck and outer edges of the face, resulting in the appearance of a ruff, and increasing in length from the top of the head down through the shoulder blades and back, with the coat on the sides and stomach being medium to medium long. Every color and pattern is allowable, with or without white. Some colors patterns, such as pure white, are rarer than others and are generally in greater demand.

The Cat Behavior Answer Book

The Cat Behavior Answer Book:
Practical Insights & Proven Solutions for Your Feline Questions

Cats can be difficult to understand. They often seem secretive, aloof, and maddeningly independent. But they also earn deep love and devotion from millions of cat owners who cherish that incomparable feline spirit. For cat lovers everywhere, pet expert Arden Moore explores cat behavior in an inviting, browsable Q&A format. She answers the questions that come up again and again among devoted cat owners, opening an intriguing window on the feline brain and physiology.

How, for example, can a cat in deep sleep three rooms away from the kitchen come zooming in within seconds of the refrigerator door opening? It's not just instinct. Cats really do have amazing hearing. Their ears are perfectly designed to pick up more sound vibrations and at higher frequencies than either humans or even dogs. And what does it mean when a cat's tail swishes slowly from side to side? That cat is probably getting ready to pounce on a mouse—either a toy or the real thing. Tail swishing is part of the cat's predatory positioning.

In addition to explaining why cats do what they do, Moore shows readers how to prevent many common feline problems. Her practical advice and workable solutions help cat owners work with their pets to banish bad litter box habits, nighttime howling, and destructive clawing. Even finicky eaters can become feline gourmands with a little gentle encouragement.

There are hundreds of tiny quirks and kooky habits that make a cat a cat. This sturdy, fun-to-read handbook explains those catticisms and opens every cat lover's eyes to the complexity of feline behavior. To know them is to love them!

Norwegian Forest Cat

The Norwegian Forest Cat is a breed of domestic cat native to Northern Europe, and adapted to a very cold climate. In Norway they are known as the skogkatt/skaukatt which means forest cat ("skog" and 'skau" being alternate words for "forest" in different Norwegian dialects), or more formally as the Norsk Skogkatt (Norwegian Forest Cat). A common name for them is weegie.

The breed is very old, and occurred as a natural adaptation to the cold climate of the region, but it was not regarded as anything other than a standard house-cat until the late 1930s, when a small number of 'Skaukatten' were shown in Germany and received very favorably by the judges. World War II brought an abrupt end to the fledgling Norwegian show cat industry, and the breed was forgotten until the 1970s. The cats are now being bred and shown in several countries. The first international association to accept the breed was FIFe, in 1977.

Norwegian Forest Cats have a thick fluffy double-layered coat, long tufts of fur in their ears and between their toes, and a long bushy tail to protect them against the cold. Their coat is essentially waterproof due to its water repellent outer layer and dense underlayer. They are very large cats with adult males weighing 6 to 10 kg (13 to 22 lb), while females are generally smaller. Their hind legs are longer than their front legs. They are very intelligent, playful cats that enjoy human company but can get upset if left alone for long periods of time. The nickname of "Weegie" (pronounced to rhyme with 'squeegee') began in the United States and is a shortened version of the word Norwegian.

Cats - The Musical

"Cats" is a Broadway musical about the interactions in a group of cats. This pop-cultural phenomenon has been performed on stage for more than 50 million patrons in 26 countries for almost 18 years, churning more than $2 billion in ticket sales. Now that Cats has finally made it to the small screen, attention must be paid not just by fans of this critic-proof show, but also by those entertainment mavens who have somehow avoided Cats until now. The video version has been restaged but, alas, not really reconceived for its new medium.

The video cast, assembled from London, Amsterdam, and New York productions, is competent. Ken Page as Old Deuteronomy, Jacob Brent as Mr. Mistoffelees, and Elaine Paige--the original London Grizabella, the Glamour Cat well past her prime--are a great deal more than that. Paige has toned down her theatrical belting of her big number, "Memory," and allowed the faded ruin of her character's soul to prevail in close-up. For all the "covers" of her signature song, Paige's version remains definitive. The video is, by definition, more intimate, not always a good thing: costumes are even more Halloweeny in garish close-up, the cats less cuddly without that all-important interaction, the stage's appropriately midnight lighting transmuted to a Las Vegas neon. And the chorus of cats in production numbers is even clunkier and more amorphous in two- and three-shots.

The one complete newcomer to the cast is the 90-year-old icon among English actors John Mills, a delight as Gus the Theatrical Cat. Sir John and his character show the youngsters how it's done in close-up, largely behind the eyes, abetted by a heart-tugging delivery of his one song. Yet virtually all of the songs are lip-synched, further robbing the video Cats of its onstage seeming spontaneity. It's clearer than ever that Lloyd Webber's music is mostly twaddle, with the important exception of "Memory," which instantly and rightly became one of the genuine theater standards not dependent on context, in the vein of Stephen Sondheim's "Send in the Clowns." On the plus side, most of the Cats characters and lyrics, from T.S. Eliot's 14-poem Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats, are far better defined and understood from the video version.

Leo - Dirt Nap

No, it's not like that.... He's just napping. On dirt... As you can see, some parts of our garden are not doing well, for obvious reasons. It's ok, most of the things that we really care about that haven't been killed by Leo (how I miss you, peas) are outside... =D

How to take good pictures of cats

Name: Aurelia (2)

Camera: Nikon D40
Exposure: 0.005 sec (1/200)
Aperture: f/2.8
Focal Length: 50 mm
ISO Speed: 360

This is a perfect example of why cat photography makes it so interesting and worth the time. Personally I love the window on its left and the blurred couch on its right. It makes me very much think of people's portraits. In fact when you notice a certain scene in your house or garden, try to get the cat there and you can get great results.

Here you see the curious look in her eyes, after I silently aimed the lens in front of her. For cat photography I will most preferebly use the NIKON AF Nikkor 50mm f1.8 lens. Why I use f1.8 lens? Simply because you then have a great range of DOF to choose from, which can get your picture very intimate.

One very important tip: when shooting cats it's very good to shoot the picture at the proper height. Prefferably at the cat's height (of course depending on what pictures you like). But this way you will get very intimate portraits.
